This project involved designing an issue of Baseline centered on the theme of Japanese typography. The goal was to explore the history, structure, and visual character of Japanese typographic forms while presenting them in a way that felt engaging and editorially cohesive.
Through layout, imagery, and typography, the magazine issue highlights the unique qualities of Japanese writing systems and their influence on both traditional and contemporary design.
Project Description
This project explores the tension between traditional Japanese verticality and the rigid constraints of a modular grid.
By utilizing a multi-column system, the layout allows for a fluid interplay between high-density Kanji and minimalist white space, ensuring that complex typographic hierarchies remain legible and balanced.
